Mystery Hangout 8A

Today it was time for my 8-graders to Mystery Hangout with a school somewhere in the world. They were very excited and this is what happened - in the words of my students My, Tea and Tove:

Right after 12 pm we connected with another class in another country. The others started by asking if we live in Europe. The connection was a bit bad, and the transmission was rocky but it was ok. After a while we found out that they live in a capital city somewhere in Europe. We had to repeat ourselves several times, because the audio was lacking a bit.

After 20 minutes we found out that they come from the Czech Republic and its capital Prague.
They continued to guess where we're from, but the connection was getting worse so we were disconnected. We tried to reconnect but it didn't work. Eventually, our teacher Pernilla wrote to the other teacher that we come from Alingsås. After another 5 minutes we connected again, but we couldn't see them. Pernilla told them that we come from Alingsås so that they also knew where we were coming from, and not just the other way around.

Here are some pictures from the Hangout:

My students had a great time and didn't speak anything but English for 35 minutes - they cooperated well and kept to their roles most of the time, but we also understood that there are a few things for us to work on for future hangouts (like organizational things). A big thank you to Petra and her school in Prague, the Czech Republic. You made our day!

I have to say that Mystery Hangouts are a great idea for many reasons and  it's definitely something that we'll continue with. More power to the students! :)
